This painting was inspired by my time in Japan and by witnessing the ways the Lord is already working in such a beautiful country. The onigiri represents something simple and familiar from my time there, while the“あい” (ai) in the background represents love. As I searched for a way to express agape love through Japanese language, I came across ai (あい), meaning love

This piece is a reminder that regardless of what country you come from, what language you speak, or where you find yourself in the world you are deeply known and deeply loved.

Japan left a mark on my heart, not only because of its beauty and culture, but because of the people. I was reminded that God is already at work in places we may not expect. He is moving, He is pursuing people, and His love reaches far beyond borders.
